Shiva and Shakti: Nonsexual Tantric Exercises

What is Tantra?

At Yogasole, we view Tantra as more than just a technique—it’s a way of life. Once you learn to truly connect with your own and your partner’s essence, there’s no going back. New doors open, and life becomes a joyful playground instead of a challenge.

Below are 10 powerful, playful, and entirely non-sexual exercises designed to help you deeply explore and connect with your masculine and feminine energies in a safe, mindful, and fully embodied manner. These thoughtfully designed exercises combine elements from various traditions and practices such as Tantra, Yoga, somatic work, and expressive movement, offering a well-rounded approach to self-awareness and energy harmony.

🌗 1. Eyes Closed Leading & Following

Theme: Trust, surrender, presence

  • One partner closes their eyes and is gently guided by the other using hand, back, or voice cues.
  • After a few minutes, they switch roles.
  • Debrief with journaling or a short sharing: “When did I feel safe? Powerful? Vulnerable?”

🔥 2. Warrior & River

Theme: Strength vs. Flow

  • One person embodies the Warrior (masculine): strong stance, grounded breath, stillness.
  • The other becomes the River (feminine): flowing, spiraling, gentle or wild movement.
  • They face each other and interact with presence. Then switch roles.
  • Invite reflections on inner balance.

🌬️ 3. Breath Mirror

Theme: Coherence, polarity, attunement

  • Sit face to face. One person leads the breath (deep, strong, fast, or soft), the other mirrors.
  • Then reverse roles.
  • Explore how it feels to initiate and to receive.

🌀 4. Voice of the Inner Feminine & Inner Masculine

Theme: Inner dialogue & integration

  • Journaling prompt: “If my feminine/masculine self could speak to me, what would they say?”
  • Read aloud with a partner or in circle (optional).
  • Can be followed by a dialogue writing exercise between the two voices.

🎭 5. Role Reversal in Dance

Theme: Power dynamics, play

  • In a tango or contact improvisation setting, invite everyone to dance at least once as leader and once as follower, regardless of gender.
  • Reflect: “Where do I naturally go? What surprised me?”

🔥 6. The Still One & The Moving One

Theme: Polarity and presence

  • One person remains completely still and present, holding space.
  • The other moves around them, expressing whatever is alive through slow dance or movement.
  • Switch roles. Debrief with breath together.

🌹 7. The Giver & The Receiver (non-touch)

Theme: Generosity, vulnerability

  • Participants pair up. One gives a “gift” — a gesture, a word, an energy.
  • The other simply receives, breathes it in, and responds with “thank you.”
  • No touch is required.
  • Switch. This can also be done in a circle.

🌗 8. Feminine & Masculine Archetype Movement Exploration

Theme: Embodiment, archetypal awareness

  • Individually or in groups, explore movement inspired by:
    • Feminine: Moon, ocean, wind, spiral, intuition
    • Masculine: Mountain, fire, arrow, stillness, direction
  • End in a meditation where both energies unite in the heart.

💫 9. Temple Walk

Theme: Reverence, sacred seeing

  • Create a “Temple Walk” where one person walks slowly and consciously through a space while others witness with full presence. (with a stick or something in hands)
  • The walker embodies either their inner feminine or masculine.
  • No applause, only silence or a hand to the heart.
  • Switch roles.

🔄 10. Eye Gazing: Sun & Moon

Theme: Deep seeing, polarity

  • Sit in pairs. One person embodies the Sun (direct, penetrating gaze, masculine), the other the Moon (receptive, soft, feminine gaze).
  • After 2 minutes, switch.
  • Reflect on what came up: tension? peace? attraction? discomfort?

Optional Integration Activities:

  • Journaling after each session
  • Group sharing circle: “What part of me felt most alive today?”
  • Drawing or painting to express inner balance

Using The chakra system

It reflects a dynamic balance of masculine and feminine energies, often referred to as Shiva-Shakti, Ida-Pingala, or solar-lunar forces in yogic philosophy. These dual energies are not about gender but about complementary qualities present in all beings. Here’s how they interplay within the chakras:

🔥 Masculine Energy (Solar / Pingala / Shiva)

  • Active, outward, logical, goal-oriented.
  • Associated with the right side of the body and the sun.
  • Drives transformation, structure, and action.

🌙 Feminine Energy (Lunar / Ida / Shakti)

  • Receptive, inward, intuitive, nurturing.
  • Associated with the left side of the body and the moon.
  • Governs feeling, connection, and creative flow.

🌀 Chakra & Duality Dynamics

  1. Solar Plexus (Manipura) – Strongly masculine.
    • Willpower, action, confidence, transformation.
    • The fiery force of individuality and drive.
  2. Heart Chakra (Anahata)Union point of masculine and feminine.
    • Where doing (masculine) and being (feminine) harmonize.
    • Love, compassion, empathy, connection.
  3. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) – Balanced expression.
    • Masculine: Clear communication, assertiveness.
    • Feminine: Receptive listening, soulful expression.
  4. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) – Feminine wisdom, masculine clarity.
    • Intuition (feminine) and mental focus (masculine) come together.
    • Insight, inner vision, and balance of logic and intuition.
  5. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – Transcendence of duality.
    • Beyond polarity; union with source or pure consciousness.
    • Integration of all energies.

🌺 In Practice:

  • When chakras are imbalanced, you may notice an excess of one energy (e.g., overactive masculine = aggression; overactive feminine = passivity).
  • Chakra work can help rebalance these energies using asana, breathwork, sound therapy, mantra, and intention.
